The Mets have finished off the first half with yet another series loss. Rookie starter Zach Thornton shone in only his third start, allowing zero runs over seven innings. Thornton is a bright spot going forward in an upcoming unimportant second half. The trade deadline is less than a month away, and the big choice is to deal or not deal Luke Weaver. The stud relief pitcher is on a 27-inning scoreless streak, so he’s at peak value. His contract for next year is the downside of trading him, as he could add value for the 2027 Mets. As the summer continues, that’ll be the lone interest the Mets have.
