Since star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck arrived in New Jersey, the entire team has played with a different energy. The team is undefeated in Hellebuyck’s starts, and in those four wins, the star netminder has allowed only ten goals. The success can’t be attributed only to Hellebuyck, as the defense around him has ramped up. Defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Brett Pesce have been the catalysts for the top-notch play. Hamilton even contributed on both ends of the ice in Thursday’s overtime win by blocking a would-be game-winning shot and eventually outletting the puck to Jesper Bratt for the true game-winner. Hellebuyck’s presence and stardom have motivated the whole team to improve their play whenever he’s in front of the net, as the Devils truly believe this season can be special; whether it results in playoff success, the team and fans will have to wait and see.
