The Devils have a new general manager, and he has ties to the organization. Sunny Mehta, before being named the Devils’ general manager, worked for the team in the 2010s as the head of the analytics department. His best move was scouting Jesper Bratt in the 2016 draft. Mehta had him as the number two overall player; the Devils drafted Bratt in the 6th round. Mehta left the Devils in 2020 to join the Florida Panthers. In his time as assistant general manager, the Panthers won back-to-back Stanley Cups. Mehta is also a New Jersey native and grew up a Devils fan, so that, mixed in with his resume, has fans very excited.
