Devils Early Season

The Devils have started off their season with a split against divisional rivals. The Hughes brothers led them to a win in the season opener against the Flyers. Luke had the game-tying goal, and Jack scored the overtime winner. Goaltender Jake Allen performed solidly in the win, but that wasn’t the case for youngster Nico Daws. In the loss to the Islanders, Daws allowed six goals as the Devils were shut out. The two games are polar opposites, as the season opener showed what the Devils can be: a team that can rally back from deficits. The Islander game showed how unsure the goaltending is and how the offense can be stymied by a dominant goaltender on the Islanders, Ilya Sorokin. However, games like yesterday’s can be a good challenge and indicator for the Devils on how to improve their goaltending and bounce back from an early-season shutout.
