The Mets have resigned Pete Alonso to a two year deal. Pete has the option to opt out after the first year. This is a great deal for both sides. The Mets get back a valuable and fan favorite player for at least one more year. The Mets lineup is now complete and it is much better than last years. I’d have Pete bat third and be behind new star Juan Soto. This allows both Pete and Soto to get the best at bats similar to Soto’s pairing with Aaron Judge last year. The deal benefits Pete by giving him stability. If he performs well this year he can get a bigger deal next year. If he under-performs in 2025 he still has a deal for 2026. Another benefit this deal brings for both sides is that it pretty much assures that in 2025 Pete will break the Mets career home run record. Pete is only 26 behind and he’s always hit over 30 in a full year. The Mets are now done with their off-season and this deal was a great bookend.
