The Mets and infielder Bo Bichette are in agreement on a three-year deal worth over $100 million. The deal isn’t truly for three years, as Bichette has opt-outs after the first and second years. Bichette is a pure bat-first player and adds depth and contact to a lineup that, in most fans’ eyes, was incomplete. His defense is the only concern, as he will play third base, a position where he, as a shortstop, is inexperienced. Bichette’s arrival also allows flexibility for Brett Baty, who could become a trade chip. The signing is a good pivot after the Mets lost out on the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes and will be accompanied by more moves before spring training begins.
