Mets Core Dismantled

The Mets off season so far has been riddled with fan anger and controversy. The trade of Brandon Nimmo was the first source of frustration for many fans. The free agency departures this past week of Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso have made most fans rage to a boiling point. These three Mets were all fan favorites and had been on the team for close to a decade, or more than half a decade. Fans’ anger does make sense, but it’s not rooted in common sense. Common sense comes from the fact that these three players were a part of a core that didn’t accomplish the ultimate goal: winning a World Series. President of baseball operations David Stearns, who is at the forefront of the fans’ vitriol, didn’t build that core and deserves the time to create a core to his liking.
