The Mets have traded Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Marcus Semien. Nimmo, who was the longest tenured Met, was a fan favorite and had signed a long-term deal in 2022. His offense had stayed at a good position, but his defense in left field had severely worsened. The Mets in exchange, get a defense-first second baseman in Semien, who is older than Nimmo but has less money and years on his contract. The trade shows that the Mets hope to get better defensively and also offers more positional versatility for the team.
