The Mets have lost the opening series of the season to the Houston Astros, two games to one. The pitching wasn’t the issue as they only gave up six runs over the three games. The offense was dormant, and the lack of production cost them two winnable games. The only hitter who showed any sign of life was Juan Soto as he hit his first home run of the season. Slow offensive stats have been the norm for hitters such as Fransisco Lindor and Pete Alonso over the past few seasons. The slow starts aren’t as frustrating to me this season compared to last due to there being precedent for it. The slow starts usually have ended around May, but there is a golden opportunity for it to end earlier this season. The Mets next series is against the hopeless Miami Marlins, so the Mets have a few games to get right.
