The Devils, who were a lock for the playoffs two months ago, are no longer a lock. With just 11 games remaining, they are only six points ahead of the Rangers for their playoff spot. The Devils’ skid has come at the worst time of the season. The main culprit for the skid is goalie Jacob Marcstrom and his fall-off. Marcstrom had played excellently up until suffering an injury in late January. His excellent form hadn’t returned when he returned in late February. Marcsttrom’s poor performance has cost the Devils valuable points over the last three weeks. Backup goalie Jake Allen has maintained his play which is a reason why the Devils are still in playoff position.  Marcstrom has to match Allen’s play in his share of games for the Devils to squeak into the playoffs.
