The Jets and Aaron Rodgers have parted ways. The move is a smart one. The two year tenure was a failure as the Jets missed the playoffs in both years. Rodgers will still be owed $49 million and the Jets should split that money over the next two years. The split would give the new regime of the Jets more money in this off-season. Rodgers departure gives the Jets three options for the future of their quarterback position. The Jets can keep Tyrod Taylor and have him be their starter while they draft a QB in the middle of the draft. Tyrod can also stick as the backup and the Jets can sign someone like Sam Darnold in free agency. The last option is for Tyrod to compete for the starter job with a free agent such as Justin Fields. All options allow for flexibility which is good for a team that has other roster spots to address.
