The Mets and Pete Alonso have been in talks about a contract for months now and the end appears close. The Mets have reportedly offered a three year contract with an opt out after the first year. This is the best offer Pete will get and he needs to take it. He’s been greedy all off-season and he needs to find a team before the end of this month. Spring training starts next month and it benefits both Pete and the Mets if they sign him to have the whole of spring training to get ready. Pete’s agent Scott Boras dealt with the fallout of players missing spring training last year so he has the motivation. Both the Mets and Pete will hopefully benefit from a new contract.
