The Nets have began making trades. The first one sent Dennis Schroder to the Warriors for second round picks. The second trade which was completed yesterday sent Dorian Finney-Smith to the Lakers for D’Angelo Russell and second round picks. Both trades got decent value for the Nets. The second round picks might turn into players who can help the Nets in future seasons. Russell is interesting because he is a former all-star for the Nets, but he’s both older and is a free agent after this season. He isn’t the all-star he used to be, but he’s a decent player. Having any decent players isn’t the goal for the team. The two trades are meant to make the team worse. The Nets front office wants this in order to have the highest draft pick. The team is still decent even after the trades which might make sense for more trades. The plan for future trades must be to get value through draft picks, not players.
