The offense has shown up in clutch scenarios. The defense has been consistent in many games. Both goaltenders in Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen have been decent. The success is expected given the fact that the Devils made the playoffs two years ago. Last season when they missed the playoffs appears to be a case of bad injury luck.
