The trade deadline has passed and the Mets added pitching depth and a solid hitter, in Jesse Winker. The depth was mostly in the bullpen. Most pitchers are decent and have been consistent. The retooling of the bullpen makes sense because the bullpen all season has been in flux. Pitchers have been overused and or preformed badly. The other trade piece was for a solid starting pitcher. They needed one more starter and got a decent one in, Phil Blackburn, though he is a back of the rotation pitcher. The hitting piece is Jesse Winker. He’s a good lefty hitter who is a good guy to get on base consistently. Overall, the Mets added players who will add depth to a team fighting to make the playoffs without giving up too many good prospects.
