The Mets like many other teams have a few great prospects and a few solid ones. Francisco Alvarez has already shown how great he can be at the MLB level. Ronny Mauricio hasn’t shown his greatness over a full season but it has been in spurts. But unfortunately he will be out much of this season if not all of it with a torn ACL. Both Mark Vientos and Brett Baty are hard to categorize as great. They’ve had great moments but it”s not every game or even every few games. Their hitting has to become more consistent and their fielding has to improve. In the minors, there is a lot of promise with Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, and Luisangel Acuna.
The pitching prospects are soon to come. Jose Butto has been the only one to be at the MLB level. He isn’t ace material, but he’s shown that over a short time at the MLB level he has the ability to be a mid-rotational starter. Mike Vasil and Christian Scott have the chance to make the MLB level if they perform well in spring training. The only trade the Mets might do, which includes some of the prospects mentioned, is for left handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo of the Marlins. The Mets could send one of Vientos or Baty and also Christian Scott.
